About the Department

Award-Winning Teaching. Ground-Breaking Research. Tools for the Future.

At UNK's History Department, you can choose from four undergraduate degree programs, with six options for minors. Multiple programs can be completed entirely online, including a bachelor's degree. Some of our areas of study include the history of science and medicine, history education, and public history.

The public history minor lets you explore the creation and dissemination of history by and for public audiences, such as Public History, Museums and Archives, Public History Administration, Digital History, and Community History and Preservation.

If you’re looking for a Master’s degree program, our online program is ranked as one of the best. Students can choose to complete the non-thesis, thesis, or public history options.

Tyler McKeone

"I loved the variety of classes offered by the History Department and the quality of professors at UNK. I took a wide variety of classes, taught by experts in the field. I also really appreciated how many research opportunities were available. I was assigned to interview a veteran. That assignment really opened my eyes as to how many wonderful untold stories are out there."
