This online master’s program is designed for science and math educators in grades 7-12 who want to gain advanced pedagogical skills to become more effective teachers. You can select either the Integrated Option or the Chemistry Option of the program, based on the expertise and qualifications you need for your classroom or school.
The integrated option provides graduate course experience across disciplines while also focusing on a Major Emphasis in your choice of the following endorsement areas: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics/Physical Science.
The chemistry option is geared toward chemistry teachers who want a greater focus on chemistry within their graduate degree.
Prerequisites: Bachelor’s degree and a teaching certificate with an endorsement in biology, math, chemistry, physics or physical science.
Through the program, you can strengthen your area of specialization or expand your knowledge of content in multiple disciplines to enhance your curriculum and improve your teaching effectiveness for students.
Completion of specific coursework in this program may qualify you to teach dual-credit, as established by the Higher Learning Commission. For information about dual-credit qualifications, contact the program coordinator at msedsci@unk.edu.
"The UNK Science/Math program has been an excellent opportunity for me to continue growing as a math teacher in both content and pedagogical knowledge. Being able to advance myself as a teacher by taking online courses while working as a full time classroom teacher is an enormous advantage to this program. Doing my coursework through the UNK graduate program was affordable, challenging, and rewarding. Faculty members in all departments involved with the program did an outstanding job of challenging the students with graduate level content."
UNK is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The Science/Math Education M.S.Ed. program has special accreditations from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and the Nebraska Department of Education.
